Controversy Erupts as GrabFood’s AI-Generated Photos Spark Backlash among Users in Singapore

0

GrabFood in Singapore has been testing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate food photos on its platform. However, some users have found the selection of AI-generated photos unappealing. A Reddit user named Marlix6754 shared their experience of encountering these photos on the page of an undisclosed food store while browsing options on the platform. The AI-generated photos displayed popular Japanese dishes like salmon ikura don, teriyaki chicken don, and truffle fries. Upon closer inspection, users noticed errors such as a whole truffle placed on a plate of fries and salmon roe appearing much larger than usual.

The user expressed dissatisfaction with the unappetizing appearance of the AI-generated photos, while other internet users questioned and made jokes about their quality. One user jokingly suggested selling the whole truffle from the photo for a higher price than the truffle fries. A spokesperson from Grab explained that they are experimenting with AI-generated photos to assist merchants who may not have the means to take their own food photos. The spokesperson mentioned that users have expressed a preference for menus with photos, even if they are illustrative, rather than just plain text. Before implementing the pilot, Grab manually checked that the AI-generated images matched the dishes in terms of cuisine, category, item name, and description.

Grab acknowledged that they made an effort to choose visually appealing and accurate photos but admitted that they could have been better. The pilot program was introduced to a limited number of merchant partners, who were notified one week in advance and had the option to opt out. Grab is continuously reviewing the photos, considering user feedback, and removing or updating images as necessary.

Seamless Travel Ahead: Passport-Free Departures from Singapore in 2024

0

Starting in 2024, people leaving Singapore won’t need to use their passports at checkpoints anymore. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore wants to make immigration and customs clearance faster and more secure. They will install 800 automated lanes that use a new contactless Automated Border Control System (ABCS). The ABCS system uses biometric technology for quick and contactless clearance. People won’t need to show their passports to immigration officers anymore.

Starting next year, those traveling out of Singapore by land will need to register on the MyICA mobile app using Singpass or their passports. They will receive profiles and QR codes for the Automated Passenger In-Car Clearance System (APICS). At the checkpoint, travelers can scan their QR codes at a designated lane with a counter. They don’t need to show their passports to the immigration officer. The immigration officers will compare the tourists’ facial photos with the code when it’s scanned at the counters. The APICS system went through successful live trials in 2022, achieving a 94% success rate. The ICA plans to implement APICS at all land checkpoints over the next five years in three phases.

The new implementation will make the clearance process faster for a large number of travelers and address limited manpower issues in Singapore.

Once fully implemented, Malaysians working in Singapore will experience quicker immigration clearance when traveling back from Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints in their vehicles.

WhatsApp Enhances Poll Feature and Captioned Image Forwarding

0

WhatsApp has updated its poll feature to allow users to create single-vote polls. This means that users can now set polls to allow people to only vote once, providing a definitive answer. To do this, users simply need to disable the “allow multiple answers” option before publishing the poll. This update is intended to provide a more efficient and conclusive way of conducting polls on the platform.

WhatsApp has made it easier to find polls in chats and track results with a new update. Creators will receive notifications when someone responds and chats can be filtered by polls. The update also allows media to be forwarded with captions. Users can keep the existing caption, modify it, create a new one, or delete it. The updates are being rolled out globally and will be available to all users in the coming weeks.

Truecaller is a service that helps identify who is calling you. They are now going to make this service available over messaging apps like WhatsApp to help people spot potential spam calls. The feature is currently in beta phase and will be rolled out globally later this month.

Telemarketing and scamming calls are on the rise in India, where people receive about 17 spam calls per month on average, according to a 2021 report by Truecaller. India’s telecom regulator has directed carriers like Jio and Airtel to start blocking telemarketing calls over their networks using artificial intelligence filters. Truecaller is in discussions with telecom operators to implement a similar solution.

Truecaller has noticed an increase in user reports from India about spam calls over WhatsApp. This is a new trend as telemarketers have recently started using internet calling. WhatsApp is the most popular messaging platform in India and uses spam detection technology to identify and take action against accounts that engage in suspicious behavior. Users can also block and report problematic accounts. India is Truecaller’s biggest market with 250 million users, out of its 350 million global users. The company earns revenue from advertising, subscription services, and verified listings from businesses.

Get the Best Deal on 5G with Yes Power 35 Plan – Unlimited Calls and 100GB of High-Speed Data

Hey there! Have you heard about Yes 5G’s latest offer? They just introduced their most affordable 5G postpaid plan yet – the Yes Power 35 plan. And the best part? Unlike their Yes Infinite plans, the Power 35 plan comes with a fixed high-speed quota that you can fully utilize for hotspot usage.

For only RM35/month, the Yes Power 35 plan includes 100GB of 4G + 5G data with uncapped speeds and unlimited calls to all networks in Malaysia. It’s perfect for heavy data users who need loads of data to share with other devices, as the hotspot usage shares the same quota as the main 100GB bucket.

Compared to the Yes Infinite Basic plan which costs RM58/month and offers unlimited calls and data for 4G and 5G, the hotspot quota is limited to just 20GB. So, unless you need more than 100GB a month, the Yes Power 35 plan is a great option for 5G usage. Just note that your speeds will be throttled to 256kbps once you’ve fully utilized your 100GB quota.

If you’re looking for a plan with added benefits, U Mobile’s U Postpaid 68 offers unlimited calls, 100GB of 4G + 5G data, and a hotspot for RM68/month. Plus, it comes with free 15GB of data for roaming that can be used in 63 countries – great for frequent travellers.

But, if you want to experience 5G at a lower price, you can opt for Yes FT5G Prepaid for RM30/month. It offers unlimited 5G at uncapped speed and unlimited 4G capped at 7Mbps, plus unlimited calls. Just keep in mind that 4G+5G hotspot usage is limited to 12GB a month.

Google I/O 2023: A Sneak Peek at Android 14, Pixel Fold, Pixel 7a, and More

Google’s biggest event of the year, the annual I/O developer conference, is just around the corner. This year, we expect at least two smartphone announcements – the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold – alongside the official introduction of Android 14, as well as details on the Pixel Tablet and possibly some Pixel 8 series information. The event is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 10, at 10 AM PT time (5 PM UTC) and will be live-streamed on YouTube. While there have been numerous leaks surrounding the new devices, there is still anticipation for surprise announcements.

At the core of the Google I/O conference is the next iteration of Android, Android 14. The update is expected to focus on refinement and improved security, with optimized resource management, improved support for tablets and foldable devices, more accessibility features, and personalization options building on the Material You design. Additionally, Android 14 will introduce new security features, such as blocking the installation of older Android apps developed prior to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, system-level security enhancements, and improved user authentication and password management. Google will share more of Android 14’s user-focused features on stage, and the consumer-ready version is expected to arrive around August/September.

Google’s first foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, is expected to be announced at the conference. Rumours suggest a 7.6-inch OLED inner screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, two 12MP back cameras and two 8MP front-facing cameras, and a cover display of 5.8 inches. The phone is reportedly launching in the US on June 27, priced at $1,799.

The Pixel 7a is expected to be a smaller version of the standard Pixel 7 with a 6.1-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The phone is expected to have the Tensor G2 chipset, 8GB RAM, and 128GB storage, with a dual camera system on the back, a 64MP main cam, and a 13MP ultrawide module. The Pixel 7a is expected to launch at $499 in the US and will be available from May 11 in India.

The Pixel Tablet is expected to feature an 11-inch LCD screen with a 1600 x 2560px resolution, a premium design, the Tensor G2 chipset, and support for stylus input and 18W wireless charging. The tablet will also launch with a Charging Speaker Dock, which will turn the slate into a smart speaker/Nest Hub device.

Finally, there is a possibility of first-hand information and teasers for the next-gen Pixel phones – the Pixel 8 series, as well as the Pixel Watch 2, and the new Pixel Buds.

New Cross-Border QR Payment System for Malaysians and Indonesians – Pay with Ease Across the Border!

0

Great news for Malaysians and Indonesians! Bank Negara Malaysia and Bank Indonesia have just announced a new cross-border payment system that allows users to pay for goods and services across the border by simply scanning a QR code. This means that users of Malaysian eWallets and online banking apps can now pay for their purchases in Indonesia, and Indonesian visitors can use their local banking and eWallet apps to pay at Malaysian merchants displaying the DuitNow QR code.

The QR code system used by Indonesia is called QRIS, which stands for Quick Response Code Indonesia Standard. This national code is similar to Malaysia’s DuitNow QR, and it can support payments from various providers. This means that regardless of which bank or eWallet provider you use, the QRIS code is able to support payments made with DuitNow QR-enabled apps from Malaysia.

The cross-border QR payment linkage has received positive feedback from Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus, who believes that it will boost economic activities between the two countries. “ASEAN is more connected now than ever,” he said. “Many more users from Malaysia and Indonesia will benefit from a secure, more seamless and more efficient experience to make and receive cross-border payments.”

Governor of Bank Indonesia, Mr Perry Warjiyo, also commented on the new payment system. He believes that it will promote faster, cheaper, more transparent, and more inclusive cross-border payments, particularly for the benefit of micro, small, and medium enterprises. The cashless payment linkage is expected to support a more inclusive and stronger post-pandemic economic recovery, strengthening the close economic ties between Indonesia and Malaysia.

The commercial launch of the cross-border QR payment system was announced after a successful pilot phase that was announced in January 2022. We believe that this new payment system will make life easier for Malaysians and Indonesians alike, and we hope that it will contribute to a more vibrant ASEAN and further development of the region as a centre of growth.
